Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane to wow the crowds at high-flying Shropshire County Show

We are on cloud nine at the moment - and why not! The Shropshire County Show is nearly with us and we have just received confirmation that THREE Iconic World War ll aircraft are set to wow the crowds with a thrilling flypast on the day.

A Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane, the three most famous British aircraft of the war,  are scheduled to fly over the West Mid Showground just before 1pm on showday - Saturday, May 27th.

We are delighted to get the confirmation from The Royal Air Force Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) and they will be an amazing addition to the show - although it is of course subject to the usual conditions of good weather and aircraft serviceability.

An eye on the skies

All we need now is for the weather to be kind so we get to see these tremendous aircraft flying over the showground. It really does promise to be an emotional sight for our thousands of visitors on the day because the Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane form such a rich part of our nation’s history.

The BBMF does a wonderful job in bringing these very special aircraft to the attention of whole new generations of people and should be applauded for keeping them flying.

It may be a long time since these aircraft flew in anger but there won’t be many who have not heard about them and the role they played in our past so the chance to see them in flight is absolutely fantastic.

Keeping history alive

The BBMF is based at RAF Coningsby, a Typhoon base, in Lincolnshire. The flight operates six spitfires, two hurricanes, a Lancaster bomber and a C47 Dakota and they are regular sights over the skies above events across the UK between May and September each year.

The flight is committed to maintaining these priceless aircraft of our national heritage in airworthy condition as a tribute to all those people who have died in the service of our country. The flight also acts as a valuable inspiration in the promotion of the Royal Air Force to future generations.

Earlybird tickets for the show are: Adults £18 and concessions  £16. Gate tickets on show day will be £20 and £18.
